Although much-criticized trans fats raise levels of ?bad? cholesterol, they don?t appear to have a lasting impact on blood sugar levels, according to a U.S. study.
Researchers, writing in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that both blood sugar and insulin, the hormone that keeps blood sugar levels in check, were similar regardless of how much trans fat people ate.
The link between trans fats and high cholesterol levels is widely accepted, but there has been a lack of clarity on the effect on blood sugar control, which is involved in diabetes.
?Although evidence from cohort studies has suggested that trans fatty acid (TFA) consumption may be associated with insulin resistance and diabetes, randomized placebo-controlled trials have yielded conflicting results,? wrote lead researcher Christos Mantzoros of Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Trans fats, technically known as trans fatty acids, are found in animal products and chemically processed vegetable oils. In response to studies linking high consumption of the substances to an increased risk of heart disease, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has required food makes to disclose trans fats on nutrition labels.
Some cities and states have banned them in restaurants or schools.
Montzoros and his colleagues pooled the results from seven experiments, including 208 people.
In five of the studies, the participants? blood sugar, insulin and cholesterol levels were monitored for several weeks under a diet of high trans fat consumption, and again for a few weeks when the trans fats were substituted for other fats, such as palm or soybean oil.
Two of the studies compared people who ate a diet that included trans fats to others who ate a diet without trans fats.
There were no changes in blood sugar or insulin levels during the times when people ate trans fats, compared to when they ate the other fats,? Mantzoros?s group reported.
However, the researchers found that during the trans fat-eating weeks, ?good? HDL cholesterol went down and ?bad? LDL cholesterol went up.
?They saw what you would expect to see? regarding cholesterol, which shows that the studies were well done, said Mark Pereira, an expert in public health and nutrition at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Pereira, who was not involved in the study, said it isn?t definitive proof that trans fats can?t influence blood sugar levels.
Although several weeks is enough time to see an effect on cholesterol, he said, a potential impact on metabolism might not show up until later.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) ? Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's party claimed victory Sunday in a parliamentary vote tainted by the jailing of the country's top opposition leader.
Despite a strong showing of pro-Western opposition parties in the proportional portion of the vote, Yanukovych's Party of Regions was likely to retain its parliamentary majority as its candidates were expected to take the lead in individual races across the country.
With former Premier Yulia Tymoshenko in jail and widespread fears of election fraud, the West is paying close attention to the vote in the strategic ex-Soviet state, which lies between Russia and the European Union, and serves as a key conduit for transit of Russian energy supplies to many EU countries. An election deemed undemocratic by international observers could freeze Kiev's ties with the West and push Ukraine toward Moscow.
An exit poll conducted by three leading polling agencies showed the Party of Regions ahead with some 28.1 percent of the vote. Tymoshenko's Fatherland party is poised to get about 25 percent of the proportional vote, while the Udar (Punch) led by world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko is set to get around 15 percent, according to the survey. The anti-government nationalist Svoboda (Freedom) party and the Communists, Yanukovych's traditional allies, both look set to get about 12 percent. And even though the three opposition parties have more proportional votes than the Regions and the Communists combined, Yanukovych candidates are likely to win enough individual races to form a majority in parliament.
Official results were slow to trickle in. With the votes at less than 1 percent of all polling stations counted, Yanukovych's Party got 50 percent, Tymoshenko's and Klitschko's parties got about 15 percent each, Svoboda got 7 percent and the Communists 5 percent, according to election officials.
"We believe that this is an undisputable victory of the Party of Regions," Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said shortly after polls closed. "Above all, it shows the people's trust to the (policy) course that is being pursued."
Opposition parties alleged widespread violations on election day, such as vote-buying and multiple voting and an attack on a candidate who tried to document election violations. The Committee of Ukrainian Voters, an independent local election monitor, confirmed those problems, but said it remains to be seen whether the violations would significantly affect the overall elections results and how fair the vote-tallying will be. Authorities insisted the election was honest and democratic. Independent monitors will give their assessment Monday.
With Yanukovych under fire over the jailing of his top rival, Tymoshenko; rampant corruption and slow reforms, the opposition made a strong showing.
"This clearly shows that the people of Ukraine support the opposition, not for the government," Tymoshenko ally Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.
Opposition forces hope to garner enough parliament seats to weaken Yanukovych's power and undo the damage they say he has done: the jailing of Tymoshenko and her top allies, the concentration of power in the hands of the president, the snubbing of the Ukrainian language in favor of Russian, waning media freedoms, a deteriorating business climate and growing corruption.
The strong showing by the far-right Svoboda party, which campaigns for the defense of the Ukrainian language and culture but is also infamous for xenophobic and anti-Semitic rhetoric, emerged as a surprise and showed the widespread disappointment and anger with the ruling party.
It remains to be seen whether Tymoshenko's group, Klitschko's party and Svoboda can forge a strong alliance and challenge Yanukovych.
The election tainted by Tymoshenko's jailing on charges of abuse of office has also been compromised by the creation of fake opposition parties, campaigns by politically unskilled celebrities, and the use of state resources and greater access to television by Yanukovych's party.

right one for the job. This person will care about whether or not you can do a good job
for that company and so this is the one you are writing your resume for.
You want to be sure that you are the right candidate for the job. You want to be sure you
know everything there is to know about this company. You want to understand exactly,
which qualities are needed to be the right candidate for this job.
You want to be sure you are not a good candidate for this job, but, that you are the best
candidate for this job.
Time to start writing
This is the time to put pen to paper and to lay out clearly what your prospective employer
is looking for in an ideal candidate. You need to be able to solidify what it is that you
bring to the table, even before you begin.
Jot down every fine point about your training and experience, your unique characteristics,
special talents, even your attitude -- everything that shows you most qualified for the job
you seek.
If you are new to the job market, be creative and draw on your upbringing, life exposure
and anything that can account for your unique experience and qualities.
You will begin to be able to connect the dots during this process. Simple statements will

ELEMENTS OF A RESUME THAT WILL IMPRESS
The primary element of an ideal resume contains powerful and assertive statements about
your talents, characteristics and accomplishments. No need to be shy. You are going for
the gold so sell yourself with all that is in you!
The secondary element of an ideal resume will show "you know your stuff" and know it
well! This will be proven by education, experience, work history and any other relevant
affiliations that shows the prospective employer that you are a person of substance and
not only of design.
Keep in mind that the more standard resume will simply be a chronological account of a
very boring life and most people will not give it a second glance. Write your resume to
be interesting and even impressive and watch as your phone rings for that important
interview!
You will write a resume that does much more than just inform; you will write a resume
that compels to action! Your resume will become as a good bargaining tool! Your
prospective employer will be interested and will stand up and take notice! This is exactly
what you want.
Be bold about your assertive statements, but, not too bold. Leave them wanting for more.
Tease a bit with nuggets of information and let them be interested to know more.
WRITING YOUR OBJECTIVE
Be very clear in defining the name of the job or job title you are so qualified for. Be
specific. Avoid general terms such as: I am seeking a Management position. Well, OK,
but what kind of Management position are you seeking? Marketers signal in on one
product at a time and so will you!
You will hit the bull's eye when you define your precise career direction and put that
down on paper. When your prospective employer reads it, they should have no doubt that
you are seeking the exact job that they need filled.
After starting your resume with your contact information, your next section will clearly
start with your job objective. Once your prospective employer can see that what you
bring to the table is what they want, they will continue to scan for more.
Employers separate the wheat from the chaff very quickly. They look for objectives that
meet with their own expectations. They know there are many prospects out there that
really don't know what they want.
Employers are not looking for these types. Your objective will convey that your
objective proves you will make the kind of contributions to the company that they need
and want.

WRITING YOUR SUMMARY
The Summary element of your resume needs to pack a punch to be most effective. It
contains the best about how and why you qualify for the job.
You want the employer to focus in quickly on this section because it will highlight your
most important accomplishments, talents, and qualities.
After reading your Summary, the employer should know, without any doubt, that you are
the best man or woman for the job. This is where you will shine! This will be your
moment to show your stuff. After reading this section, the employer will be compelled to
read more!
Writing this section, you will use many colorful and descriptive words. If one of your
best talents is sales, write that you are a gifted salesman, able to close the deal in record
time!
If your talent is hairdressing, write that your creations have been featured at XYZ hair
show and that your technique is now copied in Salons throughout the Mid-West! You get
the idea.
This section will only contain information about you that is commendable and that will
set you apart from the crowd. Using the right kind of descriptive, complimentary words,
you achieve this handsomely. Your summary will show your prospective employer that
you alone will be the best fit for the position needed to be filled.
Tailor your Summary to your Prospective Employer's Needs
Before writing your resume, you wrote notes on what makes you the best candidate for
your intended position. You will have looked at the many characteristics and qualities
that you believe your prospective employer will be looking for in the ideal candidate.

Now is the time to tailor your Summary section to matching those specific needs. Every
statement made in your Summary section will be targeted to show the employer that you

Work on writing positive and affirming statements that exemplify your unique abilities
and talents to be most affective in the intended position. Practice using descriptive
words.
If you want to write that you are a good leader, write instead that you are "proven leader"
with initiative and motivational skills that cause others to act! Describe why you are
good at what you do and leave no room for interpretation.
Using words like "good" and "competent" speaks in general terms. Describe how you
possess these attributes and you will have done your job well!
Below, you will find a variety of suggestions for composing your Summary section. You
can select those that best suit your skill-set. Experiment a bit, first, and then zero in on
those that best reflect what you have to offer a perspective employer. Remember, your
Summary section is critical to your resumes success.
Few people will use all of the suggestions. Doing this might be seen as over-kill. You
are encouraged to say the most, while writing the least.
Start with a concise phrase that describes your profession.
Next, another concise phrase showing your broad or specialized
experience.
Make a few more concise statements to show the following:
- the full extent of your skill-set
- the variety of your skills
- diversity in your experience
- an accomplishment worth noting
- Anything remarkable about your accomplishments.

This section will cap off all that qualifies you for your intended position. You will show
your prospective employer that there can be no other and the journey stops with YOU!
How do you do this best? You continue to show that you are the right one for the job by
going into better detail about all that you wrote of in your Summary section. This
requires careful wording so as not to be repetitious. If you can pull this off professionally,
using words that glow, you will have the attention you are looking for!
The most key point about writing this section is you are not going to inform. You are
going to highlight in more detail, what your prospective employer already believes to be
true about you as an ideal candidate.
The Purpose of your Skills and Accomplishments Section
Go into good detail about the following:
Any benchmarks or landmarks accomplished as the result of your unique
skill-set.
Using facts, figures and statistics, show how your best efforts showed the best
results.
Your specific talents and unique gifts as related to your job.
All accomplishments that sets you apart.
To be most effective, you will use clear, crisp writing that sums up. You are going into
detail here, but not so much that this section reads like a story.
Key Point -- Write so that you give hints and not complete details. You want your
prospective employer to call you in for the interview to learn more! This is critical.
RESUME FORMATTING
There are Three Basic Resume Formats
The three basic formats of resumes are: Chronological, Functional, and
Chronological/Functional combined.
The Chronological resume is the more structurally formatted of the three.

Jobs are listed in detail.

Imagine if your job was to organize a game night for people who like to play board and card games. Imagine if your job was as easy as playing games with people and helping them order the games they found to be the most fun.
Oh and get this, your training consisted of playing games with your family and friends ? sound too good to be true?
It?s actually not. It?s a viable business model and one Gales Ferry resident has figured out how to live the dream and do very well by it.
?I basically get paid to play games,? said Kristen Lajoie of Mulberry Drive. ?It?s a very easy job, it?s all fun stuff.?
Lajoie runs a home-based business as an independent consultant for SimplyFun, a board game company based in Bellevue, WA. And basically she?s the special guest at parties (similar to jewelry parties and Pampered Chef parties) where she introduces people to the games, teaches them how to play, and if they like them (or know someone who would) they can place an order.
Lajoie, who is already running another successful home-based, direct sales business, wanted to add another to her repertoire.
?I found this one and I liked what they had to offer,? she said of SimplyFun. The company designs and sells educationally-based games that promote family time and is a perfect fit for her and her family.
?We love games,? she said and pointed to a closet door. ?This whole closet is filled with games before I started doing this and now my office if full of games too.?
Lajoie and her sister are the only consultants in Connecticut. Lajoie is the only one of the two who will bring games to your house though ? her sister is a special education teacher in Stonington and only joined to get discounts on the products.
SimplyFun games are educational and build different skills, according to game descriptions. From the basics like matching colors and shapes, math and memory to the skeletal system, engineering, geography and chemistry.
Her most popular game is Digger?s Garden Match, which spans all ages. Lejoie said players ages 3 to 103 will like the games, and in fact, she and her husband have a robust rivalry when they play that game, with or without their daughters.
But all three girls, ages 6, 9 and 12, have a favorite.
Pickles? Pig Tails is her 6-year-old?s favorite, and she said it helps build kids? creativity, storytelling skills and memory. She said players build a story based on the cards they draw and they have to remember the story as they pull more cards.
?I thought she was going to have a hard time remembering as we got further into it with a lot of cards on the table, but she?s awesome, she blew us out of the water,? said Lajoie.
The 12-year-old likes a math game named Sumology. Lajoie said, ?Sumology is an awesome math game and it?s one that grows with them. She?s getting into higher math now and this is a good way for her to keep her skills up on the basics. I love this one for her.?
And, the 9-year-old likes most of the games and recently became a fan of Mirror Mansion, which goes like this: ?Using your mirrors, explore every nook and cranny to find the treasures hidden in Mirror Mansion! Learn about angles and the science of reflection in this fun and original game.?

?Absolutely, especially with the math skills. It?s definitely building their skills, each game definitely helps them out at school.?
And for herself, Lajoie said she has gained organizational skills while running the business. She said SimplyFun started up in 2004, although she has only been working for them since June.
?The ultimate goal of the party is to get to see the product before you buy it,? she said of her job. ?Basically I get paid to go play games. It?s awesome.?
Lajoie said the party, which includes an introduction and presentation of the games, plus game time, lasts about one hour.
She said growing the business has been easy because, ?once you do a couple parties, it just snowballs from there.?

THE HUMAN ABSTRACT Digital Veil music review by amirima
Perhaps for many of us, one of the most important issues in composing, arranging and producing an album, while considering creativity and uniqueness on another level, is its uniformity and solidness of the structure. Saying it in a more familiar way, I usually like the album to grab my attention with its very first song and hence, moving forward to the final song, one realizes that the album is following a direct path avoiding too much unrelated, misplaced, and tiring driftage, jumping or contradictions here and there relative to the genre and message of the album.That desirable creative uniqueness and solidness is what's happening in "Digital Veil", the third album, by The Human Abstract. If you enjoy baroque/classical melodies/music, you need to listen to this work.
"Elegiac" cannot catch a listener's attention any better. It beautifully opens the door to the great experience of the "Digital Veil." (8.5/10)
"Complex Terms" is one the most melodic songs of the album. The lyrics are great. Heavy rhythm and powerful vocal melodies are dominant. And one remains only to enjoy the shifts to the clean classical parts. (9/10)
"Faust" is yet another great track with great lyrics. It's melodic and very arpeggiated- a characteristic combination of brutality and aggression with beauty. Again, in this song one can witness folklore and classical influences. (10/10)
"Antebellum" is beautiful. Sweet clean-guitar arpeggios, heavy silenced and broken rhythms, and with awesome vocal melodies is the longest song on the album (7:29). Filling guitar arpeggios/sweeps are everywhere in this album; well they are technical and extreme progressive metal! :D (9/10)
"Horizon To Zenith"? Wow! Again, another awesome track that beautifully starts with stylish baroque-like melodies and sweep arpeggios. The rhythms are usually broken and silenced as the other reviewer has already mentioned it. This song too, possesses a cool piano part. (9.5/10)
"Patterns" is a just the right track for finishing this album. It's mainly floating on its heaviness over a 6/8 pattern. Vocals are awesome. The guitar solo for this track is probably the best on the album. (10/10)
"Holographic Sight" (5/10) [Good track but not as unique and dominant as others!]
"Digital Veil" (4/10) [The worst song!]

In campaign money race, Romney wins October, Obama leads overall
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mitt Romney and his Republican allies raised more than President Barack Obama and the Democrats in the first 17 days of October as both presidential campaign efforts approached the $1 billion mark, with Obama in the lead, disclosures showed on Thursday.
The tight 2012 presidential race has become the costliest in U.S. history thanks to massive spending on advertising and get-out-the-vote efforts by the campaigns and by outside groups that have no fundraising limits.
After several months of lagging Obama in fundraising, Romney, the Republican National Committee and allied state parties overtook their Democratic rivals in October with $111.8 million raised from October 1 to 17, his campaign said, a period that included two of the three televised presidential debates.
Obama's campaign raised $90.5 million for itself and Democratic Party allies during that period, becoming the first in history to raise a total of more than $1 billion for an election effort together with his party.
Romney and the RNC were close behind, taking in a total of $919.4 million throughout the 2012 campaign so far.
Obama's campaign hedged on the $1 billion figure, saying the total was still short of that mark - at about $988 million - based on a tally of the cash raised since April 4, 2011, when Obama's team and the party officially became one campaign.
Reuters totals are based on a more commonly used calculation method that includes campaign funds starting on April 1, 2011, and party efforts dating back to January 1, 2011.
"As the Romney campaign and their super PAC allies continue to outspend us on the air, we're making every effort to expand our donor base heading into the final stretch," said Obama campaign spokesman Adam Fetcher.
Romney's campaign said it had $169 million left in its own and the party's bank accounts at the end of October 17 - a hefty sum for use in the last leg of campaigning before the November 6 election and more than the $123.9 million available to Obama and the Democrats.
"There are less than two weeks left, but we still have much hard work to do to ensure that Mitt Romney and (running mate) Paul Ryan win in November and bring real change to Washington," said Spencer Zwick, Romney's national financial chairman.
With the two men running neck and neck in polls, Thursday's money disclosures are the last glimpse into the campaigns' finances before Election Day.
"In an election this close, they're certainly going to try to put every dollar to use," said Anthony Corrado, campaign finance expert and government professor at Colby College in Maine. "They're building up cash because they want to have as much money as they can for the big final push."
Obama voted early in Chicago on Thursday to encourage other Democrats to do so as both campaigns were in a hectic last-minute dash through the handful of crucial states seen as determining this year's winner.
WAR OF THE AIRWAVES
In a record-breaking spending spree, both campaigns have devoted the bulk of their cash to blanketing the airwaves with advertising.
In the first three weeks of October, the latest tally by the academic Wesleyan Media Project found that Republicans - Romney, his party and outside "Super PAC" groups - spent more than Democrats on ads, but Obama and his allies actually ran more ads.
Only candidates themselves are promised the cheapest rates for ads, meaning parties and outside groups have to pay up. While Romney has held a cash-on-hand advantage over Obama in recent months, it is thanks to strong fundraising by the Republican Party. Obama's campaign on its own has dwarfed Romney's in the money stakes in recent months.
That has afforded special prominence to the deep-pocketed Republican "Super PACs," outside spending groups that can raise unlimited funds and buy ads on Romney's behalf as long as their work is formally uncoordinated with the campaign.
The main pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future on Thursday reported raising $20.1 million in the first 17 days of October.
Of that, $10 million was a new infusion from billionaire Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and wife Miriam, financial disclosures showed on Thursday. Harold Simmons, who is a Dallas banker and another top donor, gave $1 million.
The "super" political action committee had $24.2 million sitting in the bank as of October 17, the filing showed.
The pro-Obama Super PAC Priorities USA Action raised $12.7 million and had $10.1 million left in the bank on October 17.
The group received last-minute help from Silicon Valley start-ups, getting $1 million donations from LinkedIn co-founder Reid Garrett Hoffman, Zynga CEO Mark Pincus and Silicon Valley venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. Prominent billionaire financier George Soros also gave $1 million.
Another strong outside money group on Romney's side is American Crossroads, a Super PAC that is part of the effort spearheaded by veteran Republican operative Karl Rove, a former top aide to George W. Bush.
The group brought in $11.7 million in the first 2-1/2 weeks of October and had $6.4 million in cash on hand at the end.
After months of staying on the campaign sidelines, natural gas advocate and billionaire CEO of BP Capital T. Boone Pickens gave his first $1 million to the group earlier this month.
Other notable October contributions came from top Republican givers and the group's perennial donors Simmons, who gave $4 million, and Texas home builder Bob Perry, who gave $1 million.
