A long-route cycling is being done from St Lucia to Wivenhoe by more than a thousand people as part of a campaign that aims at collecting funds for cancer patients and for support of their families, a recent report has uncovered.
It has been found that the event was started last year when it earned above $4.7 million. This is the second time that the cycling event, the Rio Tinto Ride, is being organized to help Australians. A part of the donations is also sent to the Queensland Institute of Medical Research so that detailed researches down the road may be conducted into the highly deadly illness.
Nearly 1,519 riders in their 294-member crew from the University of Queensland St Lucia have participated in the event. This year minimum $5.2 million collection is being aimed. Amongst them, some are cancer sufferers while the others are cycling in support of their friends or relatives.
As per the report, the 200km trek would be completed until tomorrow morning. And the ride would be then be covered back as well. ?There is an untold sense of camaraderie from the start, along the route, at camp and especially at the finish, which is quite emotional?, said Klaus Bartosh from Brisbane, a participant.
